Swaddled was originally conceived in a dream. Once I had my concept in mind, I did some research, journaled, drew, and created a water color. I gathered many materials and decided that the bear needed to be hollow and light. I cast hog casing around my son’s old childhood plush bear. The cradle board is made of birch bark which I lined with beaten kozo fiber to give it strength and stability. The bear is wrapped within a handmade felt blanket fashioned to fit within the birch bark carrier. The headdress is made of handmade felt, beads, shells, and minerals.
